I LOVE these books and think you can't go wrong by meeting Mma Ramotse! These are quirky, enjoyable, feel-good novels. They give a complex look into daily challenges and interactions with other people, while still being very simple, enjoyable, books. This series has heart and I read them just as soon as they come out!
I actually listened to this one in the car on rides to and from the hospital. I love that the books are well written and enjoyable for myself, while still being interesting to my children. I never have to worry that something offensive or inappropriate is going to come up while listening to these near little ears.

This is one of my favorite series. I finally caught up with the author and now have to wait for the next book.
I used to devour this series, but got away from it for a while. After reading the Tannie Maria mysteries, I think I've decided I like my Africa-set mystery stories with a little more, well, mystery. Yes, I enjoy the characters but I feel like McCall Smith has been writing them for so long with so little change that they have become caricatures. This one seemed especially slow moving. I can't decide if the later books have gotten slower or if I just enjoy them less. Also, all of these easy resolutions with no consequences - not my favorite. I do still think the writing is beautiful and gives you that noble, peaceful feeling (and makes you want to travel to Botswana), but I don't think I'll be clamoring to read more in the series.

I really like this series, but this one was only OK, but that won't stop me from reading the new one. Lots of quiet wisdom from Mma Ramotswe.
