I’m for sure not this book’s intended audience - this is my first foray into manga (for the Storygraph Genre Challenge), and I did a good chunk of research to find something that was light and romantic, and thought I’d enjoy! I did not. The relationship dynamics are so uncommunicative and gender-roled - so much sexism and misogyny sprinkled throughout and it somehow happens in place of character development. Anyway! I would/will definitely try manga again but I’m going to aim for more literary/contemporary and hopefully avoid some of the sexist dynamics that didn’t land well for me.
Graphic: Sexism, Alcohol, Gaslighting, Infidelity, Misogyny, Panic attacks/disorders, Sexual harassment, Toxic relationship, Body shaming, Sexual content, Sexual violence, and Stalking

Fast and to the point. Wonderful for those who like friends-to-lovers trope. It was able to handle a trope I don't like skillfully. I was entertained, I like the characters, I'm rooting for them. But it's not very swoony for me.

This is so sweet! It’s definitely got those hints of spice, but I’m drawn in more by the personalities of these two. A shift from childhood friends to romantic partners is super cute and it’s fun watching them navigate the change. I’m very into slice of life series like this too, where we see some more mundane and quiet elements to existence and it makes them feel relatable!
Excited to see where this goes and I am already hooked!

Very cute. I liked the characters, especially Koyori's work friend. The relationship dynamic is cute between Koyori and Hijiri, though he's way more on board with it all from the jump than she is. The speed with which they went into 'I love you' and looking at the relationship as marriage material was really fast.
I'm a little skeptical on how the childhood friends to lovers angle and Koyori's struggle to think of Hijiri in a romantic way can be stretched out over several volumes, but I'll read the next for sure.

Such a cute little story about childhood friends. I was warned it was spicy, but a few calm sex scenes doesn’t seem that spicy to me. But I’ve also read some pretty spicy stuff thanks to my time in the romance genre

Changes of Heart didn't really do it for me. The art is nice, though I find Hijiri boring to look at in comparison to all of the other characters, and the smut scenes are pretty nice as well though not very graphic (they're pretty euphemistic since we don't even see any sound effects around them to denote what they're doing). Unfortunately, I find Hijiri to be uninteresting as a character as well, and for both he and Koyori I just don't understand why they're reacting the way they are. Except when I do, I find the choices made to have them react that way to be the less interesting option. I may still try out the other volumes and if so, I hope they get better, but for now this one was a bit disappointing.
Minor: Infidelity
