Heartless was a grumpy/sunshine romance with a decent amount of smut.
This book follows Cade Eaton, a 38 year-old rancher that lives on Wishing Well Ranch. He has a son, Lucas/Luke who is 5 years-old. There’s no wife/mother in the picture here and Cade is in need of a nanny during summer break for his son.
Willa Grant is the free-spirited best friend of Summer Hamilton (Rhett Eaton’s fiancé from book 1). Willa is a 25 year-old bartender with no direction in life. Her famous brother needs to renovate his bar for the summer, so Willa is at a loose end. Summer puts Willa forward as a nanny for Luke and this is where Cade and Willa’s story begins.
What I loved:
✅ Grumpy MMC
✅ Feisty FMC
✅ Age-gap
✅ Found family
✅ Smut
There wasn’t anything I particularly disliked in Heartless. This was a fairly low-angst, low-suspense, low-drama story. It was filled with banter and family dynamics and a slow revealing love story.
The romance is definitely a slow burn and nothing significant happens between Cade and Willa until around 60% into the book.
The pregnancy surprise in the last 1/4 of the book wasn’t to my liking. To be honest, I feel like the endings of these books can be a little rushed; I feel like Silver took a lot of time building up the couple and when they finally get together, the reader doesn’t get to read much about it.
I feel like the book was a little too long. The story did drag slightly in some areas.
We did get a little cameo of Winter Valentine in this one and how she isn’t as heartless as we thought she was in book 1. I can see her relationship developing with Summer over the next few books.
Verdict: A light read filled with romance, found family and lots of laughs. If you’re looking for a low-angst love story, give this one a try.
