It was pretty dark - very similar to the Matrix. I thought it was going to be an analogy for the afterlife but it definitely wasn't. Read up on trigger warnings.

I really loved the characters in this but wish I could've got into the plot more. At first, the vagueness about the circumstances of the characters created a really great atmosphere but it became frustrating the more I read. I didn't like the overall concept too much but some of the descriptions of the landscape were amazing, as well as some of the smaller moments such as the characters sat in the supermarket or the scene with the boar. I didn't feel this book lived up to my expectations, however, it wasn't a bad read and I finished it in only 3 sittings.
