This book took me a minute to get into. I wasn't quite sure where we were headed and I personally took a beat to get the three cousins straight in my head. It felt, for a moment, that I had joined a story already in progress, which of course I had. These characters had history together and as the story unfolded and we got more and more about each of them, where they came from, their family lives, what made them tick... I found myself getting more and more wrapped up in the story.

I tend to read books that jump right to it, here we get a much slower release of information and honestly, I needed it. I needed the anticipation of what would come next, of why each Oscar was so detached, why Ethan was so eaget to strike out on his own, and why Matt was so scared to do the same. I needed to be able to get to know them the same way they were getting to know each other. At the start all we have is stereotypes and assumptions, but by the end we know the heart of each of them and our feelings are only solidified as we watch them band together as well.

This book surprised me- which is probably the highest praise I can give. I read a lot, and it's not often I find myself totally thrown off (I mean that in the best possible way) by how a story unfolds, but I was here, and I can't wait for everyone else to get a chance to read Boys of the Beast and go along for the ride too.
