i think this was a cute little vampire x human rom-com. it wasn’t anything too memorable or spectacular to me, but it wasn’t bad either. the ending and “conflict” felt so like mid and very basic. the resolution was just too lackluster imo.

This was really fun! It's so nice to read a romcom that's actually funny and light in tone. I really enjoyed how most of the book was just Cassie and Frederick having conversations and getting to know each other, especially the epistolary element with all of their notes and letters (reminded me a bit of The Flatshare in that way). Their romance was really cute and I loved how low-conflict it was. Frederick trying to adjust to the modern world was hilarious.

It went a bit downhill at the end for me. Although
I appreciated how Cassie and Frederick didn’t break up,
the third act conflict fell flat and felt a bit underwhelming. I think it would have been better if it had been more of a surprise to the reader and had more urgency to it. The resolution was honestly ridiculous.

I also wish the worldbuilding was a little stronger. It felt more like a contemporary in which one of the characters happened to be a vampire than a paranormal. I wanted to know more about vampire society, their rules, how they’re governed. There’s no apparent concern when Cassie unexpectedly finds out Frederick is a vampire and runs off, even though he later says humans finding out can be dangerous. It’s never really explained why Frederick moved to the US or how he became wealthy. Some of the editing in regards to timelines was a bit off as well.

Overall though, this was a cute, entertaining romcom and I had fun reading it!

This is a cute light-hearted vampire/human romance. There are funny ha-ha moments, and our 300+ year old vampire is quite charming but there were also moments that drag on. In truth, I was never “hooked” to the characters or the story line, and the conflict at the end just felt rushed. This is also an incredibly slow burn book with one decently spicy scene.

My first spooky book of the season! I wanted something fluffy and fun, and this delivered… sort of. Unfortunately I felt there wasn’t a whole ton of depth to the characters or their relationship — it often seemed like they were only together for convenience — and I found my self flipping the pages quickly to get to the end and move on to the next read. Altogether a fun concept, but which fell a bit flat upon execution.

like, it wasn't bad, but it also wasn't good. a peak meh book.

if you put every vampire trope into a blender with every contemporary romance cliche, you'd get this book. i can respect that that works for some people, but it's a no from me.

A paranormal rom-com about a woman and a centuries-old vampire falling in love.
I liked the mix of heavier material with the overall light-hearted vibe. As well as the vampire parts of the story not taking themselves too seriously.
The narration was excellent and really added to the story.
I found Cassie overall likable but had some traits or things she did I didn't like or understand. I would have liked chapters from Fredrick's POV, without them he was a bit harder to like and understand.
I'd love a prequel, or novella that takes place in Fredrick's pre-21st century life. And I saw the opening the author left for a sequel in the epilogue. I also would have liked a neater ending to the story.

A nice surprise! For me it was just the right amount of cheesiness and silliness for a rom-com.

You won't find heavy fantasy in here and there are some of the usual vampire romance questions which do not get answered, or are brushed over: the immortality of the love interest and the very much mortal MC, the ethical stuff surrounding blood etc. I did not expect the author to deal with those things anyway, so I really enjoyed the story.

Frederick is a sweetheart and I loved the cluelessness of him navigating the 21st century. Cassie was a strong main character and I enjoyed reading from her perspective. I usually enjoy romance books which have the 50/50 split of POVs more, but Cassie's narration was interscepted by snippets from Frederick's diary, e-mail correspondence and notes, so this gave just enough idea what is going on in his head without spoiling unnecessary stuff.

Overall, it is a great light read without too much drama and I will be waiting for the next book by this author.
