Sequel to The Princess and the Hound
I think I liked this book better than the original. I really enjoyed the relationship between the bear & the hound.

Solid fantasy novel and a stunning follow up to The Princess and The Hound. I enjoyed it more than the first book and I think this was due to the struggle between the characters to define human or animal rather. As they come to accept themselves and their nature they grow as characters and teach a valuable lesson.

I had forgotten much of the events in The Princess and the Hound but couldn't resist the urge to continue this series. This story continues to be well-written and adorable.

A worthy sequel - it starts off a bit slowly, but once it reaches its stride, this book is just as good as its predecessor. And Harrison clearly has not lost her touch for writing wonderful relationships.

I really love these books. I liked the first one better, but this was so good. I love the characters, and the plot, and the environment. Easy to read, but such a lovely story.

I really wish I had posted a review of 'The Princess and the Hound' as I would have liked to compare the two, but it seems I did not. I felt like I enjoyed the first book far more than this one. The writing in this was VERY disjointed, the characters were not nearly as fleshed out, and the revelations lacked. I was quite sad with this, as the idea of finally seeing the great Bear in his human form, and the Hound as a human as well might have had more impact on the story. For instance, I would think that being a human would have affected Chala (the Hound) more than an occasional thought on how she should have acted. All in all, quite disappointed with this one. An interesting and different story that wasn't taken further than the bare minimum.

Let's just say, WAY better than Princess and the Hound. The plot's more intruging, the writing style is tons better and the characters are more alive.

Like I said, the plot is definitely better and I love how Mette gives us perspectives from the animals - the Hound and then the Bear so we could delve deeper into their minds. I also loved the idea of time traveling and though it didn't happen as fast as I thought it would, at least it didn't take too long for the plot to actually begin.

The wild man is one of those extraneous character but he still played a vital role because he was the one who allowed the Hound and the Bear to time travel back in time. It was also amusing how at the last moment, before they entered the time warp, that he randomly asked the Hound if she wanted to be a woman or a hound. It seemed to be that it would've been better if he told her ahead of time...oh well. It's just one of those things.

The characters were more alive, like I said. They definitely had more emotion and character. Even though the Hound's way of doing things were a bit rough, I liked her thinking and her way of solving a problem. Seems very straightforward instead of the typical roundabout ways that we humans think.

The writing style improved. Better flow and just better in general.

Overall, Princess and the Bear made Princess and the Hound worth it. :)

I felt like the author did a very good job creating a character with mores and reactions that are not like a human's. However the story arc of the other character was not as compelling and the magic seemed to just show up rather conveniently (or maybe it was just too heavily foreshadowed). Nice idea, just needed some more tweaking to make it a really compelling story.
