This was so insightful. I recently started therapy and wanted to read a little bit about therapy before I got into it. So many of the feelings and fears I had about the process were addressed. Besides this, there was just this very “human” quality to the book with pain that we experience in different ways being explored and validated compassionately. This didn’t feel exploitative of patients either. That was a big worry of mine going into this… but the issues of her patient are explored with no defining ways to pick out the individual and also done in such a way that I felt like listening to “everybody hurts”. It felt like universal difficulties and pain. Only the therapists OWN therapy and life was described in the kind of detail that could pinpoint the individual. And those sessions along with her patients sessions just told a much larger story about humans working through emotions.

Oh my word, I loved this book so much.
