Peccato.

Idk--grooming??

Man is 25 and she is 18, but he met her when she was 10?? And was her master and teacher from 14 onward? I can't get behind this.

The rest of the plot was fine, though the book could have been shortened. I have no idea what book 2 would be since this plot ended all tidy.

Bra och spännande
men otroligt många karaktärer och namn där i slutet haha

Easy to read, likeable characters and a good story line. It ended really well so you don’t have to read the second one.

i’m a huge fan of Ross’ most recent duology and so I went into this series with high hopes and unfortunately… i just… so much of this book was cast under the ugly shadow of the inappropriate age gap relationship.

i will say that the world Ross built was fascinating. I adore the idea of passions. & Brienna’s relationships with her passion, sisters and the people she meets along her journey in this book are wonderful!!

All except for one…

All of the negative reviews of this book talk about how boring it is and how uncomfortable people were with the age difference.

1. Yes, 18 year old graduating student and 25 year old professor. Not awesome, however, this book is set in the 1500s and there are plenty of romantasy books with way worse age gaps and far more inappropriate content. I can’t say anything without spoiling but it was done extremely well in comparison, imo. Also, there is no spice and the romance is not the main plot anyway!!!!

2. Though I did get a little bored at the end, that was more to do with slight repetitive language due to the fact this is a YA book AND a debut novel.

Speaking of that, the fact that this is Rebecca Ross’ debut fantasy novel is INSANE! HUH?! She DID that. Every book I’ve read of hers continues to blow me away at the quality, world-building, character depth, and pure whimsy of it all. She actually is the queen of romantic fantasy. Every time I read her books, I am fully transported to another world. I also love how she writes duologies and stand-alones as a fantasy fan who has a hard time with long series.

After book #2, I only have one more book until I’ve read her entire backlist 🫡
