This book is the perfect combination of both key ASOUE themes:  "adults aren't always right" and "not everything is black and white." Sometimes the law fails, sometimes due process isn't just. And, the concept of being noble enough is something that sticks with me even more permanently at age 26.

I recommend everyone re-read these books as an adult, because I'm picking up on little jokes I didn't get before. For example, there's a line where Sunny says "Scalia?" which she meant as a question about the high court. I did not get that joke as a kid, but I get it now.

Overall, The Penultimate Peril is one of the strongest books—if not the strongest book—in the series.
