I liked this book. Not initially, I hated  the first 100 pages because of the EXPLICIT descriptions of sex but I enjoyed the character. The story of the Gold siblings makes you think about if you want to live or survive and how much time we really have to do it. Each sibling has their own story to tell that each give a different lesson in a different time period that makes them feel real. There were some character decisions that I thought were a little quick but it adds to the story in the moment. There is a character for everyone to have some relation to. Each character is so strong in their passions and it’s genuinely interesting to see how each of the siblings go about their lives and the time they have left.

I should’ve known from the first page this would be a yikes read. The descriptions used when taking about a 13 year old girl who just reached puberty made my skin crawl. But I gave the book a chance because I was so excited for it. But was hit with the next chapter about an16 year old boy having sex with a man 20 YEARS OLDER than him. And the book treated it like it was fine by indulging in graphic sexual details. I had to remind myself he was 16 because the author wrote it like any other smut scene. Not an adult taking advantage of a minor.! I’ve only seen one review pointing this out. I wish I knew this going in because it was really triggering.

I read this for a book club and couldn’t help but read ahead. The first section about the life and death of the youngest sibling in the family is the strongest emotionally, though there are things to think about throughout the book. The third section is the weakest. The author also uses a lot of very strange and seemingly out of place sexual descriptions, which might be a turn off for readers.
