book is advertised as a bodyguard romance, isn't a lot of that in here but it's very entertaining and I'm gonna definitely read the rest of the books in the series, love the writing, overall very cute but i feel like the author tried to put multiple tropes in one book and it was too short to fit in everything

3 and really below that because it does have a cliffhanger even though it says
"Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary."
It isn't the romance but her business interests that don't get answered and so not a stand alone to see what will happen. Also it ends really abruptly.
Spoiler He is staying with her but not moved in though they are talking, he quits hockey but has two offers, one being a sports agent (more likely) other being trainer (sounds more up his alley) and of course he could always work for his brother, not happening.
Work... Still this is up in the air. Then there is the relationship, more a HFN with the start to HEA? But the big CH is the investigation and since this was actually more interesting than the romance at first (at the end the romance took over and I got over the pregnancy not being his, hard leap to take for some.) So the obvious bad guy? What happens? I guess it is left to the next book? How? Isn't she the one responsible for the production? Hmm... So NOT a stand alone but not a big cliffhanger since the romance and situation is, well almost, finalized, kind of.

Many review say they did not quite get there with the couple and I believe it is because it ends abruptly and is semi-unfinished though we see it going in the right direction.

So barely got to 3 but there are a few sweet parts at the end that are tear jerkers.

Update at beginning
Really hard for me to read through the beginning of this as the premise is idiotic. She is a top CEO of a multi-million dollar company. She is pregnant, if you read any of the series of Brooklyn (Brooklyn Bruisers) you know this character so this is not a surprise. And since it is said in the very beginning of the book, it is not a spoiler. The blurb should say it but it would turn off too many people. It turns me off because the guy is a dick, she is 30 something and thinks that this is her chance. She might be completely against abortion, but when the father is a dick who abuses women, well, all I can think the whole reading is I hope she has a miscarriage because this is like a bad situation! If he hit you, most likely he will hit the baby. You have money and want to buy him out of the baby, no kidding that is her plan, pay to have him sign release papers. Well, if the guy is trying to get your money, why settle for that only? He could ruin your life for years with custody battles, child support, etc... She supposedly is really smart and runs this big corporation, best plan, claim the child is someone else's but that doesn't even come into play. So really hard to read through this drivel of a premise and get excited for the "couple" expecting a baby that is someone else's who's a dickwad.

Eric Bayer has a character I wanted to read about, his closed off demeanor had me intrigued. Eric meeting Alex was a perfect combo, all the banter, thee fake relationship, bodyguard story behind everything made this story a great one. This new series will become one of my favorite ones, as all of the previous ones, Sarina Bowen just knows how to get me in. Great five star and can't wait for the next one.

Actual rating is a 3.5, but I'm rounding down because I just did not care about The Company spinoff this was setting up.

Also, I spent the first half of this deeply confused, because I though Bayer had already retired and I wasn't under the impression that his father and brother worked together (and quite frankly, there were too many Bayers when all I cared about was the hockey team). But once I figured out the timeline (not helped by me reading a few books out of order because of the intertwined series), I got along just fine.

I didn't really care about the lack of resolution with the corporate espionage situation, but I did really like Eric and Alex.

**2.5**

ARC received for an honest review

Baaaaayyyyyeeeeeerrrrr!!!

Now that I have that out of my system, woot I have been waiting for Bayer's story. This spin off of the Brooklyn Bruisers gives us both hockey hotties, corporate espionage, thrown in with sexy times.

Eric is drafted by his family to help with their business, and you know this is going to be fun and games from that moment on.

Eric is the cocky sports guy, yeah. But he is so much more. And Alex isn't the damsel in distress who needs him to save her... or does she?

Gah there is so much I could say about this story, but I also loved going in pretty blind (Sarina Bowen is an author that I don't care what they write, I will read it).

I loved seeing the Bruiser boys (even though there's not much hockey happening here), plus there are other characters that I NEEEEED to see more of.

I can't wait to get more of The Company - please don't make me wait too long Sarina!

*4 Stars*

I enjoyed this book as with all Sarina Bowen books. Eric was a really easy to like/love character. He was sweet and adorable, but also so protective and rugged. Alex was a very focussed character, but she had so much going on. She was a strong female lead. There was a mystery involved in this storyline, and I was kind of on the right track for it, but I wasn't totally there until it was revealed.

Enjoyed this and would recommend.
