This book had a lot of things I really liked and a lot of things I really didn't. The idea of a captain basing his actions on what he's learned from Star Trek was fun, and his interactions with Tammy the AI where you see the actual intelligence behind his actions was enjoyable. However, the captain also spends far too much time ogling, propositioning, and even inappropriately touching his many female crew members. I suppose it was meant to be humorous, but it was just distasteful, to such an extent that I found it difficult to keep reading. I like Steven Erikson as a writer, but I think he hit a false note with this one.
