the denouement was a little weak, but it was fun to go along for the ride.

Interesting concept, but I'd guessed who the killer was within the first chapter - just thought it would be too obvious! Still a good read and I'd recommend it!

It took me a minute to get into the book but I was also focused on taking notes to see if I could actually solve it before the end of the book, I did not. I would love to be able to see an actual detective from a larger agencies take on the book and to see if they could solve it before the end. It was a good read but not one I will probably read again. The ending left a lot to be desired.

I really liked it. It’s not an easy read because of the format, but definitely worth your time if you like true crime.

Major spoilers ahead. You've been warned.

Starting off, I was completely wrong about the identity of the killer. I was right about some things (like Amelie and Maura's cinema alibi being weak), but I thought Guy as the killer was too obvious and appeared to lack motivation. I really didn't love the justification for the crime at the end of the day, and it really didn't hinge on Luke's identity at all. So we went down that whole rabbit hole of who is Luke-Eric-Jonah when it really didn't play into the crime at all? Guy did it because of past trauma? Even the fight between Ian and Luke happened because of the will, and not because Luke was lying about his identity. Like ???

I was also irked about the billions of untied ends (and I may have missed something, so please correct me if needed) BUT ---

1) Rupert's phone call??? Did we ever figure out what that was about?

2) Caroline claiming she knew when Luke lied - did she know he was an impostor? Did she know about his past and was it really love on his part? Why the cheating? There was no real justification about that one either.

3) Rebecca - come on, WHAT? Why would those last few pages even happen? What did it really add to the story? And how/when did she and Jonah/Luke get in contact again? The watch? Why???

4) Bill's alibi? That one comment about someone seeing him at the cop function but it was never followed up on?

5) Did Caroline know that Guy did it? She'd noted his behaviour was erratic, did she know something was going on with him, thus the therapy? Also, the girls' behaviour after the crime (fire??) - did Caroline ever suspect that her kids were involved?

6) What about Alan and Eileen???

7) The Mohammad Khan/Laila story line - truth? Or was it really Real Luke that did the hit and run? If he didn't, why did he suddenly leave Australia?

8) Did Rupert know anything about what was going on at ALL?

Ugh, I hate untied ends. Maybe some of these were red herrings, but I didn't like so much of it being left unaddressed.

Still. Four stars because this was a wild ride of an experience (I NEVER saw the Luke impostor plot line coming) and the format was really engaging and fun. Even if I was wrong about my theory that Amelie did it because she found out Luke was going to rip their mom off, and Maura and Rupert were helping her to cover it up. I think I like my theory better than the truth.

This was actually fun, i think I went he he he out loud a few times reading the second half.
The script style can get a bit cumbersome, I got to admit, but in the end, it works just fine.
There is a “twist” of sorts that works great and you can actually predict it if you think about the whole thing while reading.
Not a 5 star read because I guessed the murderer but dismissed it because it was too obvious and I didn’t really like the ending.

On another note, it’s hilarious to me that this is apparently going to be a series in real life?
