fast paced, raw and raunchy. more than a memoir, Cecchi injected life into the behind the scenes of a seemingly glamorous industry. as someone that will always love the hospitality sector, this book is one that i will hold close to my heart for a long time to come.
I love books about the restaurant world, and this was one of the more entertaining ones. The author was a waiter, maître d', and manager at some of the best restaurants in NYC. His stories of the good old days were amazing. Apparently, one was lucky to get fed at a restaurant back then, as the staff was mainly snorting blow, sucking down shots and screwing in the bathrooms. It sounds like things got a lot more calm in the more recent decades, but there was still a lot to tell about the guests, including models, mobsters, movie stars, bankers, artists and restaunteurs. This one was great fun for those who are interested in the subject.
Another really fun look behind the curtain of the elite NYC restaurant scene - this time from the other side of the kitchen. 3.5 stars because the pacing felt off but the stories were so interesting.
Interesting viewpoint, but unfortunately the author seems like a misogynistic jerk. However, many of the stories were entertaining so I’m on the fence about this one.
I devoured this book (no pun intended). A very niche subject matter but I absolutely loved it and was sad when it was over. Next stop, visit author’s restaurant in NYC!

interesting read with an interesting narrator. more like a memoir told through restaurants. didn’t care for the name dropping, but i don’t know any of the celebrities anyway. the sex references are a bit much in the beginning but it tapers off throughout the book.
