While I enjoyed the overall message of Parks' memoir in relation to civil rights and equality and the racism that we try to cover up nowadays in our country, I found the plot to be quite wandering. It took me months to read this book that should have taken, at most, weeks because the plot line did not move, climaxes were not present, and it was quite difficult to get a sense of character from anyone other than Parks. I wished Parks had done more work to reflect and comment on the racial tensions and scenes of bigotry he experienced all over the country and throughout his life, rather than simply showing us scene after scene and letting us reflect on these moments ourselves. Again, I think the message behind his memoir to find your "weapon" to fight against the injustices of the world, is one that many young people should be exposed to. I just wish I didn't have to drag myself through his prose to get to that moral.
