I adore Ann Shen's books! The art is always lovely and spectacular and you end up learning so much. I loved the links in the ebook that let me see the original pictures of the fashion moments. I learned a lot and it's also a walk through some memories because a few of the moments are from just a few years ago which was awesome to see. I was reading the book going I remember that! And I learned even more about those moments even though I saw them happen in real time. Just another amazing book! Definitely read it!

This book is a look at women and the history they made through the clothes they wore.  Each woman has a small description about why what they wore was important and an illustration. The short biographies make a great starting point for learning more. An inspiring book for girls of any age.  Enjoy

I am in love with this book. It combines fashion and feminism and body positivity. It celebrates women of all sizes and colors and sexual orientations. The author shows how the fight for women's rights and freedoms was reflected (and at times furthered) by the clothing that was worn. This is a book that I am sharing with my daughter, so that she can see how the choices of other strong, brave women allowed her to become the strong, brave woman that she is today. Oh, and the illustrations are charming!

This book was fantastic!
I’ve always loved fashion but I haven’t given much thought to how fashion can also make a valuable statement so often. This book makes me wish that we all had fashion history courses. I’ve found history very interesting as an adult, when I’ve learned a lot more and noticed how much we weren’t taught in school. So, let’s add this to the list.

While reading this book, I got so excited by all of the facts that I actually 1) posted about it on Facebook 2) posted about it on Instagram 3)texted my friend random facts from the book and 4) told my husband a bunch of random facts.

Do you know the reason women considered red lipstick as anti-Nazi? Do you know why someone stole Katherine Hepburn’s pants? How changes in fashion often went hand in hand with empowering women?

Wow. Seriously.
Read this book. Share this book with the women in your life.

On top of all the awesome information included, there were also adorable illustrations of every fashion mentioned.

I loved this book. I won it in a Goodreads giveaway, I just thought it would be cute but it’s so much more than that.

This book was a breath of fresh air in our troubled times! Ann Shen takes the reader behind the scenes of 50 fashion moments, new and old, representing a diverse group of women. I loved learning about fashion traditions from other cultures and historical eras past, as well as individual trailblazing women. Each feature showed how women used fashion to celebrate their power and strength. Inspiring and educational, with great illustrations to boot.

This would be a wonderful coffee table book for anyone identifying as a feminist, fashionista, or both!

This book has 50 different fashion statements with illustrations of each outfit. It features specific outfits and trends throughout history that made political and cultural statements.

There were many iconic outfits that made history. Princess Diana’s revenge dress made a statement about her new place in life on the day that Prince Charles admitted to adultery. Serena Williams made a statement with her black catsuit, which she wore for medical reasons but was then banned because the officials thought it was inappropriate. These are just a couple of the iconic outfits in this book.

There were also some fashion trends that were revolutionary. Jeans are a part of everyday life now, but women had to fight for the right to wear them. Hairstyles are also used to make fashion statements, such as the Afro, which defied the white standards put on black people, and the Bob, which defied the feminine look of long hair. It’s amazing how these small changes can make such an historical impact.

This is a great book about fashion and feminism.
