Stories were entertaining; wish it would have had more music/singing.

I grew up with only the vaguest impressions of Dolly Parton's existence, but every time I learned something about her, it made me like her more. This book got into the nitty gritty of her life just enough to learn a few things (at least by implication) that *didn't* have that effect, but overall I got the impression of Dolly as a genuine, likeable, good hearted person, which is more than you can say for a lot of celebrities. I especially enjoyed hearing about her creative process and how intuitive the way she works is.
I did get concerned for her when she made a comment about just hoping she was 'good enough to get into heaven' when she dies. She talked about her church growing up and her faith in God, so I really hope that was just a figure of speech, but it made me want to ask her, "You do know about Jesus right? That He died for all of your sins, and you don't have to be 'good enough', you just have to trust in Him?"

Everyone knows Dolly, not not everyone knows her inspirations, collaborations, and realizations. The stories in this book help the reader really get to know Dolly.
Listened to this one. I love the singing and her telling her stories & the stories behind the songs
I love Dolly of course, but I suspect Songteller will work best for superfans. I listened to the audiobook, and it really did read like an extended interview. Enjoyable enough of course! But it didnt feel like much effort was put into the creation of this, and there wasn't a whole lot of depth and detail.
