I enjoyed this book. Warren and Chloe were so sweet together. Someone said that the book was a slow burn…I’m not so sure. I feel like Warren and Chloe were very upfront with their feelings about each other and their situations. So everything felt quick to me. I really enjoyed Warren standing up for Chloe. I was so happy when they found peace in each other. Willow was such a sweetheart. Luke, I loved him and I just enjoyed whenever he and Chloe interacted. Chloe is a great example of someone who shines even brighter when someone is there for her. I really wished there was Warren’s point of view. His perspective would have made me enjoy this book more.

Next of Kin is Hannah Bonam-Young's debut novel and it doesn't disappoint: it's emotional, full of banter, and steamy.
Chloe was a character that I immediately loved. Her strength and determination to take care of her baby sister, Willow, was admirable. I enjoyed watching Chloe navigate her new role as a guardian and the way that she wanted what was best for Willow so that she wouldn't have to grow up the way that Chloe did, in and out of the foster care system. Warren was a grump that had been burned one too many times. I appreciated how vulnerable he ended up being as he worked through his past hurt and trauma. The way he fought to help his brother made my heart happy. They definitely clicked together and helped each other make a home and find family. I loved that their journey wasn't hindered by miscommunication, rather they were vulnerable and honest with each other.
This was a bit of a slow burn, which I love, and gave me the grump/sunshine vibe I love. The steamy was steamy, the emotions were powerful, the characters had depth, and the happy times made me happy. I also appreciated the ASL inclusion!
I can't wait to read what Hannah puts out next!
CW: addiction, anxiety, childhood trauma, foster care, adoption
