There are a few somewhat disjointed, but important to me, things I need to say about this book. (1) I picked this us because I felt connected to Suleika on some level through our shared Tunisian heritage, although the North African diaspora remains so vast and nuanced and hard to navigate in the US. (2) This is a memoir about illness. Which can admittedly be hard for healthy, able-bodies folks when depicted so honestly, particularly from someone so young and already grappling with the tumultuousness of selfhood in their early 20s. (3) Suleika's 100 Day Project inspired me to finally start writing again, which I am forever grateful for. I am in awe of her love of craft and music and art and life. (4) Three quarters of the way through reading, I looked up Suleika on instagram and was so sad to find her again in the throes of chemo and another bone marrow transplant. The space "between two kingdoms" can be fraught and unyielding. I wish her well.

Read as part of local library book club.

Rating: It feels a bit weird to rate a memoir, but I really enjoyed the perspective and

Brave, vulnerable, raw. Suleika Jaouad writes beautifully and draws you in with her descriptive storytelling. Here is a young woman making the best of the hand she’s been dealt and sharing her talents openly, freely.
