A lot of people have called this book cosy, lighthearted, and it is those things but it also felt sort of boring. I enjoyed some of the characters but mostly it felt like there wasn't huge growth in the main characters. I'm sure part of it is just that I had different expectations, I thought there might be more world building to explain how a coffee shop might work in a place with no electricity. I thought there was going to be a more visible, slow burn romance but it fell a little flat for me. Also some of the dialogue felt clunky to me and would take me out of the book. Decent for what it is but felt like a chore to finish.

i loved this book and genre. i’ve been missing fantasy, and the fact that this is so cozy and low stakes makes me appreciate it even more. i thought that the story was cut too short, and that the characters lacked some depth or quirks to make them appear more realistic/relatable. however, i had a really nice time reading it and can’t wait to continue with the next book

What happens when an orc wants to retire from the adventuring business? That's the question to be answered. Light humor, poking fun at conventions, and a truly diverse range of characters bring it to life.

I was a little disappointed at the end that the succubus and orc couldn't just be true friends. It felt like a failure, given everything else they each turned around.
