Great story, and it was fun to come up with theories on what was going on throughout the book. Slow burn romance that turned inferno. The author did a great job of tying up lose ends and questions I had throughout the book in the last 1/4 while still keeping it interesting.  No cliffhanger, but created enough interest in finding out what happens next for me to immediately want to pick up the next book.

This story blew my mind. It was twists and turns from the first chapter until the last. It follows Poppy and her life of being a Maiden within the Kingdom while being trained to defend herself by her main guard, Vikter. Throughout, she has multiple guards that watch and escort her to and from areas of the castle in order to ensure her safety. That is until she meets Hawke, everything changes.

Poppy is truly a multi-faceted queen who is a teeeeeny bit reckless when it comes to her wants and passions. The trainings she has had to endure in order to becoming worthy for the Gods All of this is in preperation for her ascension. So, how did we end up at the brothel in the first chapter do you say? Well, you’re gonna have to stick around to find out.

I love being in Poppy’s brain and understanding how her mind works throughout this journey. The people who have saved her time and time again has made her grow in ways that molds her intuition. Understanding what does she want for herself out of this life. The story is fast-paced and will keep you on your toes. Amazing story-telling and the world building gradually develops as you dive into the story. I highly recommend it and it is also an ongoing series! I actually can’t wait to dive into the next book.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The relationships between characters are fun and believable. The system is fascinating, and although the plot is a bit predictable, there is still plenty of surprises.

GUYS. THIS BOOK. I know I'm like years too late but now, I'm fully obsessed, too.

It is a tad long at times (as is all romantisch) but honestly, waiting for Hawke makes it all worth it 😉

The sexual tension these two have? Off. The. Charts. Like, even when
he's fully betrayed her but then he's bandaging her wounds
and it's just like?? Am I into this now?? Yeah apparently lol

Is the plot life changing? No, but you know what it is: FUN. I was fully out of my Romantasy phase and now I'm ready to jump in again and read about more broody dark-haired bad boys again.

Perfect read to end out the year <3

There were moments where I was able to predict things, like that Hawke was an Atlantian. I also predicted he was the Dark One.  The ascension truth threw me though. Wasn’t expecting that.

I was suggested this book as a recommendation after reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

The first 25%-30% of this book I found quite boring, it took me longer to read this section than the rest of the book. It started to pick up a lot more with
the attempted abduction of the main character Poppy and the murder of one of her personal royal guards, Rylan.
I could not put the book down after this, and read pretty large chunks afterwards, finishing a bulk of the book in 2 days. This is that majority of where the 2.5/5 rather than 4/5 stars comes from.

My other main criticism of this book, but not as much as the first point is
the romantic relationship between Poppy and Hawke. I found it pretty cringey for some parts, but also love him as a chaotic character of weird morality.
He reminds me of (ACOTAR spoiler)
Rhysand a lot, but if Rhysand was a bit more murdery and psycho I guess?

I definitely recommend this book for people who liked ACOTAR. I think the overarching conspiracy theories are very engaging once you start to get into it. I will say that a lot of the twists were very easily predictable for me, but YMMV. I think this book was really used to set up a lot for the rest of the series, so just try to get through it if you find parts boring because I have a feeling more exciting things are in the future. I finished the book today, and the ending had a twist I actually was not expecting at all that was left as a cliffhanger. If anything, it made me happy that I can start the next book asap because I am feeling the same type of excitement that I felt when (ACOTAR/ACOMAF spoilers)
Feyre was taken to Velaris

Holy shit this was a rollercoaster from start to finish!! I adore Poppy and cant wait to read more of her and her badassness. My old complaint is the age gap between the two of them other than that it was awesome!!
