This book features: lack of consent issues, the least subtle foreshadowing I’ve ever read, a 200 year old man with the maturity of a 9 year old, 3 different kinds of vampires with an extremely convoluted explanation of how they differ, and an astoundingly naive and oblivious Not Like Other Girls MC. The writing is tortured and the plot is hot garbage, objectively it is very, very bad. I’ll be honest though, part of me enjoyed this, it’s too bad to take seriously so it became mindlessly fun trash like Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey. 0 stars for quality, 3 stars for enjoyment. Won’t be continuing the series

This book was abysmally slow. Poppy is annoying and stupid. The love interest (I have forgotten hs name) was unlikeable. Their power dynamic was extremely toxic. It had these weird world building paragraphs that were huge info dumps in between one word dialogue. Grammatical errors everywhere and horribly repetitive dialogue. Saw the twist from a mile a way. Book picks up last 50 pages but it isn't worth it.

The two people of color in the book are both in servant type roles. One is named TAWNY. Big yikes.

I honestly don't know why this book is so hyped. It was one of the worst books I've ever read.

Any fan of dark, romantic fantasy such as Sarah J. Maas would love this book. Filled with emotions and human relability but also set in a beautiful fantasy world that catches you off guard with its dark nature, its a book I had to stop myself from reading and remind myself to take ny time and enjoy. The last chapter left me speechless as I didn't see that coming. Hawke, I saw coming, that, I didn't. Biggest cliffhanger ever. I read this book for sexy scenes supposedly inside and came out witnessing a beautiful relationship that I will forever crave on my own life. It should also be stated that Jennifer Armentrout is a master at taking established lore and twisting it. Forget vampires and zombies, get me near a craven and I could never sleep again. Those things are seriously scary. I loved every minute of this book and while it's not a 5/5 star book that I wish I could read every moment of every day, it is a wonderful book that I will come back to many times.
