Easily one of the better fantasy books I have read. Starts off a little slow and the size of the book is intimidating. However the second half and ending is well worth it!

Slow start but it pays off in the end. Massive spoilers if you get to the middle of the book and read the synopses of the next two books.

He touched my cheek with his fingers. "I hope you realize that no matter what anyone has ever told you, you are more worthy than anyone I've ever met."

This book was certainly a trip. Not sure how I can even begin to unpack this. Well, first of all, I told myself not to read this book when it became really popular and it was everywhere. That is because usually, hyped books haven't done anything else but disappoint me. When I started reading From Blood and Ash, I was convinced I wouldn't get far until I'd stop reading. I ended up consuming the whole thing within two days.

Sure, the plot and world building was a bit questionable sometimes. Then again, I rarely read fantasy books so I feel like I'm no judge when it comes to that. It just felt a bit hollow from time to time, and sometimes I just stared at a wall for a good few minutes trying to figure out what is going on. I genuinely didn't expect the author would throw vampires and werewolves into the mix, and when she did, for a moment I felt like I was reading a slightly better copy of Twilight. I got over it, though, and ended up enjoying the book a lot.

The characters are alright. Every single time I thought to myself "Oh wow, I really like this character", they ended up dying. That was a bit of a bummer, but I was able to live with it. We also get a morally gray, dark haired man with questionable motives and pretty eyes. And he has dimples. The dimples were enough to save the whole book for me. The bar is clearly in the basement.

Anyways, yeah, I enjoyed reading this. I even stayed up till 5 am just to finish this goddamned book, and I regret nothing. I'm still surprised that a hyped book ended up being this good - I might even reread it someday.

Very fun to read and the banter was hysterical. I found the characters to be very lovable even at their worst.
