As a mystery book, this was really good. I was pretty surprised by the ending, and it felt a bit rushed there, but otherwise the entire story was top-notch mystery plotting. 4.5 stars, definitely.
I liked it enough. Making it a college age kids would have been much better. It’s too unbelievable for a high school student would be allowed to be that involved in a case.
My students warned me there was cursing in this book (Shock!) so I was prepared. However, I feel there would need to be swear words in order for it to be authentic dialogue between high school boys. I enjoyed this book. It definitely had me guessing on how the killer was the entire time.

I had to take a small detour from my Christmas in July TBR because my library had finally gotten in an eBook I suggested several months ago. This is a YA Mystery following a group of rich boys who go out hunting one day and one of them doesn't make it back alive. It's a book I saw suggested by a YouTuber whose name I can't even remember because I saw them make this suggestion so, so long ago. And I think the time between when this originally caught my eye and when I finally read it is the main thing lowering the rating for me.
I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it when I originally heard about it back in 2017. This was written down a little too far for me to really enjoy. There were several giant twists in the novel that I could see coming so far away, but were probably meant to be surprising. At least based on the reaction of the characters in the book. I do really enjoy the characters in this one. Surprisingly, this is the second YA Mystery novel I've read in a three month period where I'm rooting for a romance between one of the main characters and one of the main suspects. Look. We don't need to unpack all of that. Let's just move on. The mystery and the ways in which we get to the answer were just okay. I would suggest this one to people who don't normally read Mystery or to younger readers who just haven't had the time to see all of the tricks of the genre.
Overall, this was a fun and quick read for me. Also, so happy the library came through for me with this one. This month was the month of library reads and it has been so good so far.
I remember reading this Freshmen Year and loving it!!
Such a captivating story, with many twists and turns to keep you on your toes.
Id definitely recommend this book if you love YA Thriller/Mystery!

This was my first book by this author, so I had no idea what to expect. It began with a Southern Gothic vibe and gradually evolved. I felt that the story truly gained depth in the last ten chapters. While the first part was easily readable due to the exquisite descriptive writing, it felt somewhat lacking in substance. Nevertheless, it is still a good read.
