As I am writing this review, it’s hard to ignore that I have just finished the book. The ending quarter of the book is an incredibly emotional payoff to the first three quarters of the book which are a bit slower paced. The book is, admittedly, problematic and it can be hard to separate my modern sensibilities from the ideas of the time. However, it would be foolish not to acknowledge the profound impact that this book had. And after finishing the book, I’m not surprised that it did.
