Beatrix poses as a medium, but she is not, she is just playing with people's feelings for money. When James is asking her to come to the infamously haunted Ashbury Manor she will find dark secrets that are buried deep into the house.
It is a great ghost/romance story, I enjoyed the characters but did not like the ending much, I was thinking at something else.
Thank you Netgalley for this opportunity.

I was excited to have the opportunity to read The Haunting of Beatrix Greene before Halloween hoping it would be the perfect, spooky read for the season.

In some ways, it did just that! Beatrix is a fake spiritualist invited to spend the night at Ashbury Manor by Lord Ashbury to help free the spirit of his mother, Lady Ashbury. The concept is great, however at times I felt that the story was rushed and at times predictable. I felt like the romance between Lord Ashbury and Beatrix came out of nowhere and wasn’t developed enough for me to be rooting for them.

By the end, certain details felt repetitive. It seemed like they battled with the spirits haunting the manor over and over again, which made me a little bored.

Overall, I felt like this could have been developed better. Especially since the book is so short, there was room for more. It did put me in the mood for spooky season!

Thanks to NetGalley and Serial Box for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

A Victorian haunted house story dramatised with episode like chapters + depths to characters + demonic relics/possession + a hint of ancient history!

Beatrix comes out of a darkness surrounding her that she never knew existed; hence the book title. Its so much more than a ghost story. James is the most eligible man every 19th century woman deserves. The language used is exquisite, so much like the old English. I mean I haven’t seen/heard anyone use words like “treacle” anywhere!! Last few chapters felt like a drag, but I’m excited to see what the authors have planned next in this series.

Thank you Netgalley, Serial Box & authors for the ARC in-exchange for an honest review.

i liked the spooky part but I found the romance a bit too rushed.
It's entertaining and gripping, well thought characters and an excellent world building.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

A nice quick, spooky read for your Halloween reading pleasure! This one was entertaining, engaging, and quick. While some parts seemed rushed, overall I enjoyed that it wasn't overly drawn out. I also enjoyed that the chapters were more "episodes". Definitely recommend!

The Haunting of Beatrix Greene was not what I expected. The paranormal elements were great, and I loved the cohesion between the house, ancestry, and other elements (do not want to spoil!). I was not a huge of the body horror; however, this is a personal opinion that effected my enjoyment- for others this may be a plus! It was a quick, fast-paced thriller that had me at the edge of my seat throughout.

The Haunting of Beatric Greene is a fantastic opening to a new series. Although I wasn't prepared for how short this would be (my bad, it's made pretty clear) the horror was still pretty impressive. I hope there is more plot and character development in the future instalments, there is a lot of potential here!

Pretty standard haunted house plot, great cast of characters, excellent writing and descriptions, romance felt a bit shoved in, but gave me some good spooky feels which is all I can really ask from a haunted house book in the first place. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

I was intrigued by this as all I knew going in was it was set out like episodes of a TV show.
Despite being intrigued I'm left disappointed by the first half especially. I just didn't feel invested until probably 70%.

Although the second half in general was much better. The ominous atmosphere was there at this point.

The insta love just felt forced and out of place for me. With the book being on the shorter side the characters just have time to build any sort of chemistry. Therefore I just didn't care about them together.

I'm currently unsure if I will pick up any future books in the series as this felt like a drag for half of it. I'm a little worried the next book might be as bad or have unnecessary tropes like insta love that takes me out of the story.
The second half is the only reason this went from a 2 to a 3 star.
