⭐ 3.4/5

this book was utterly complicated as hell. i lost track on some chapters. i had to reread them at least twice.

its storyline was both sad and creepingly weird. the characters looked calm. although the plot was heavily confusing, i enjoyed the eerie atmosphere of this book very much.

perhaps, i should watch the movie.

I really didn't like this... It has the plot of a horror film that never went to theaters that you randomly pick up at Redbox and barely make it through 15 minutes before you turn it off. Sigh. I liked the creepy factor at first (shouldn't have started this at midnight) but it was too weird and hard for me to understand. I really disliked the ending. And what was with the Dairy Queen trip? I don't understand!

This was the weirdest book I have ever read. It was very all over the place for most of it, and the ending was just as confusing.

I watched the Charlie Kaufman film when it came out in 2020 and knew I’d want to watch it again sometime. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a film that so clearly deserves a second viewing.

Well, it’s now 2022 and I never did get around to watching it again. But hey, why not read the book instead?

I was not disappointed by the book. I can’t say which is better, the book or the film, as the film is truly an excellent adaptation of the text.
The book is just as moody and quietly melancholy. It does its job of portraying this mood so incredibly well.

If you haven’t watched the film or read the book: keep an open mind and give it a try if you’re in the mood for something dark and somber.

Favorite sentence: ... but isn't being alone closer to the truest version of ourselves, when we're not linked to another, not diluted by their presence and judgements?

I actually enjoyed this quite a bit more than I anticipated.
