I don't know how she does it, but she manages to sound at once sophisticated and gourmet, yet casual and real. This is my first of her books, and I'll definitely seek out more.

The most unpretentious piece of food writing ever. She gets that sometimes buttered pasta with salt is every bit as satisfying as a gourmet meal sometimes. I love her.

I started reading this once, and only made it to about D or E before becoming distracted by The Gastronomical Me, which is contained in the same volume. I'll give it another try, and see if I can get all the way to Z for Zakuski this time.

MFK Fisher always recycles herself with style.
