I thought this would be Tobias and Tris' story from his perspective but that wad only a small portion of it. Otherwise it was interesting learning about him from before they met.

Four: A Divergent Collection tells the story of the first Divergent book in the perspective of Four, the love interest. In addition to the story being in his perspective, the book delves into how Four chose Dauntless and his background in general.

I enjoyed the book, but I did have one small problem with it: the pacing; it felt slow near the end due to a pacing issue, and that's why I took off a star. I really had to push myself to finish the book because it got kind of boring. The first half of the book was really interesting, though, because it showcased Four's home life and the weight of his decision to choose Dauntless, and I really enjoyed that aspect of the book.

Is the book necessary? No, not at all. However, if you read Divergent and liked the character of Four and wanted to learn more about him, then you will probably like this book.

However, I felt that it was extremely necessary that you read Divergent (the first book) before you read this book because there are parts where Veronica Roth assumes that the reader already knows about key plot points that happened in Divergent, and so it briefly summarizes them or doesn't go over them at all and then carries on with Four's perspective of it. Therefore, I feel like you definitely need to read the first Divergent book to understand and enjoy this book, which is why I took off another star because it is dependent on other books to enjoy it.

Despite that, I wanted to know more about Four's story when I originally read Divergent, and I felt satisfied that I got what I wanted from this book.

I loved Four during the series, so I loved getting to read from his point of view and learn more about him.

I really like reading about the initiation two years before Tris with Four telling the story, even though it was a pretty slow story with not much happening. I do believe that I liked this book more than Allegiant, though. I also liked Four's POV telling about his relationship with Tris during her initiation.
I do highly reccomend this book to whoever read the Divergent trilogy.

I surprised myself by really liking this. I loved the Divergent series but I rolled my eyes at all these little extras that popped up after. Yesterday I found myself in the library desperate for something to read though and so I grabbed it, and read it fast. Makes me miss the series though.
