Has this spurred a career change into becoming a doctor of death? Who knows?

Unnatural Causes was fascinating to read, from the medical dissections to the court appearances. Learning about the life of a pathologist, through the years, really enticed my interests.

Anything medical and health related speaks to me and Dr Richard Shepherd provided clear and accurate explanations of all kinds of topics. Discovering how the body breaks down and even being able to identify causes of illnesses was insightful. In my studies of midwifery, there are overlapping topics discussed in this book which even improved my understanding.

For a non-fiction, I was hooked on the events that transpired years ago. Big up Berkshire for being mentioned!🤙🏼 I felt the writing style was fluid and the ease of reading was welcomed, even with medicalisation of words.

Very much a pleasure to read and would recommend anyone who has would like a peak into how complex and fragile the body actually is!

Part memoir, part case studies, Richard Shepherd takes us through his most interesting (distressing) cases whilst giving us an insight into his personal life and how it was affected by his work as a forensic pathologist.

Admittedly, I found it a little slow to begin with; every post mortem seems to be roughly the same, except for the results. The intrigue largely lies in the nature of the crimes committed and, as Shepherd moves through his career, these become much more substantial. His depictions of the courtroom are truly exciting and his dealings with mass disasters are in equal parts haunting and enlightening.

If you are interested at all in forensics or medicine, it's a fascinating read with a lot of emotion.

Great autobiography of a great forensic pathologist, i recommend if you are interested in post-mortem since the author describes it in great detail

A really accessible and fascinating memoir that opens the door to a world I knew nothing about. I wish I had found what I wanted to do at such an early age. Even now I am at a loss to what excites and inspires me.

I truly am in my nonfiction era and I am loving it! This was a fascinating read from a man who assisted with forensic pathology cases ranging from 9/11 to the death or Princess Diana. What an incredible piece of work about an incredible career. I’m going to send a copy to my grandfather, who worked as a pathologist for a large portion of his life. It was so cool to see what kind of work he did, because he never talks about it.
