Although military genre isn't my usual cup of tea sci-fi still liken the premise of a runaway royal hiding in the Legion of misfits...akin to the French Foreign Legion and the portrayals of cybernetics technology. Plus it's hurt that the runaway is one tough female who can very much fight.

This was interesting, and I like Andromeda as a character. Looking forward to the rest of the series. It's a bit rote - Huff's Valor series does this better - but I still enjoyed it.

I often find when reading that I DREAD the female lead. Why? Because they tend to fall in to one of two categories:

Feels like that character was originally male, then they changed it last minute as a marketing gimmick.
OR
Completely focused on the fact the she's female; either by pointing out how amazing it is that she's doing stuff men do, or by making you constantly aware of how female she is.

Fortunately, this book doesn't really do that. Dietz had the decency to make any reference to her femininity relevant, and doesn't make it seem like a disability like so many others do. So the book has that going for it.

Of course that wouldn't make much of a difference if the rest of the story was terrible. Fortunately, Andromeda's Fall is EXCELLENT. It's got lots of action and sci-fi warfare which is always entertaining. It has characters I actually LIKE which is always a bonus but more importantly, it has characters I HATE (and I am supposed to hate them). I find it is much more difficult to make me truly loathe a character and this book has at least three that I well and truly despise!

In short, I love it and can't wait to get my hands on the next one.

I stopped reading this about a fourth of the way through it. Military fiction has a hit and miss with me, but I think the main problem I had with this was that there was hardly any dialogue. Cat hardly interacts with anyone up to that point and I wanted to know her and root for her character already, yet she remained an enigma. That, coupled with a telling narrative over a showing one, didn't urge me to finish this book. On the plus side that cover is pretty stellar.

as of this review no book in this "prequel series" has broken 4.00 GR rating line but I liked it. After the all-boys adventures of the Cumberland [b:For Honor We Stand|18476108|For Honor We Stand (Man of War, #2)|H. Paul Honsinger|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388375267s/18476108.jpg|24247059] (Men of Valor series ) it was nice to follow the adventures of a female protagonist for a while. I've taken a shine to the socialite turned legionairre and since this is my "Legion of the Damned" book I have no clue as to what will happen in the future. After initial confusion about the nature of the cyborg ('borgs) and biobods (regular human soldiers) I got into the adventure. I've been dipping my toe in military scifi and this was a nice intro the space legionaire combat action. Not sure if Dietz was actually in the military but it seemed to have a genuine ground pounder feel to it, for me at least. Will finish out the prequels and decide if I want to read the older "main" series. 4 stars.

A fun story, with lots of action but little depth. I'll read some more because I like "in the dirt" mil sci fi.

Superficial military science fiction with a sizable cast of characters, most of whom come and go so quickly they fail to leave an impression. Even the main character is a one dimensional type who failed to absorb me in her journey. Add in the fact that I was distracted from this book twice, managing to start and finish two other books, means that this story never fully held my interest. Therefore I can't, in all honesty, rate it higher than two stars.

A military sf series that I read only for the Endeavour Award. War on every page (okay almost every page). Definitely Starship Troopers inspired with a direct borrowing of the French Foreign Legion. Not exactly bad just really not impressive in any way. And I'm tired of the training, rising through the ranks Mary Sue.

Guter Start, spannende Einführung. Leider wird die Rache am Ende eher zweitrangig und wird hoffentlich in den nächsten Büchern weiterverfolgt. Übrig bleibt Standardkost mit Standardende.
