this was a very quick and easy read, definitely a book i felt like i couldn’t put down. from the first chapter, i was hooked. i needed to uncover the mystery.
i’m not sure that i’m in love with this book, but i would definitely recommend it.

2.5. I just like…didn’t care. There were definitely really interesting bits: the girls going missing for a month, their changed appearances, the hold they have over people, their linkedness, etc. Ultimately though, for not a very long book, it slogged a bit. The reveal ultimately saved it, but I’m not going to remember this one in about a month or so… (it’s such a shame because LOOK AT HOW STUNNING THE COVER IS)

“My sisters. My blood. My skin. What a gruesome bond we shared.”

This is about three dark-haired, blue-eyed sisters who vanish as children and reappear in the same spot exactly a month later. Except now they all have matching scars on their necks, their hair is white, their eyes are black, and they all claim they can't remember what happened to them. But is that the truth?

Fast forward a little bit in the future, the eldest sister Grey goes missing. The two younger sisters have to come together to figure out what could have happened to her. They start to wonder if her disappearance now has anything to do with their disappearance when they were young and if Grey knows a lot more about what happened to them than she's letting on.

This was different. It was weird. It was creepy. I loved it. The mystery/suspense was high for me. After about a third of the way in I could not stop reading, I just had to know what was gonna happen. The characters are all so fascinating, the writing so eerie. It was all too easy to get immersed into this story.

The most interesting part of this book for me was the the fascinating relationship between all of the sisters and how they're all bizarrely connected to each other. This part right here gave me chills when I read it:

Grey hated being left out, hated us embarking on plans that had not been sanctioned by her in advance. She was a general and we were her small but fiercely loyal army. "If Grey jumped off a bridge, would you?" my mother had asked me once as she splinted my broken pinkie finger. Grey had broken her pinkie hours before, so I found a hammer in my father's pottery shed and used it to shatter my own.

I didn't follow my sister. I was my sister. I breathed when she breathed. I blinked when she blinked. I felt pain when she felt pain. If Grey was going to jump off a bridge, I was going to be there with her, holding her hand. Of course, of course, of course."

I also appreciated that although this is technically YA, it wasn't too YA. Krystal Sutherland was not afraid to go there. This got pretty dark and gruesome at times. I love it when young adult books catch me off guard in that way, because most of the time I'm expecting them to read pretty young.

The writing very heavily reminded me of Wilder Girls (which I also love). It was like Wilder Girls, but with dark fairytale vibes. I think if you like Rory Power there's a good chance you'll like this one too.

Just the right amount of creepy for me to handle and definitely dark fairytale vibes. I personally did not see ALL the twists coming but did have suspicions and I like being right so that was satisfying. Would be interesting to see a sequel.
