+ for diversity, nice to read something that.
Maybe I expected more towards the end, but still felt like this ending was meant to be something as a new beginning for whatever we hope it is. I guess we’ll see more of them but as a sidecharacter in the other books.

Would reccommend this one and the second one in the same series.

This was absolutely wonderful, even better than I hoped it would be, and I can't wait to continue the series. β™₯ There was so much angst and yearning, that despite logically knowing how things would play out (it isn't Romance with an HEA, after all), I constantly found myself second-guessing whether there would be a happy ending for these two β€” and I mean that in a good way! I was so invested in this relationship that I couldn't help but worry for Livvy and Nicholas. Alisha Rai has an incredible way with writing and I am so excited to read more books from her.

β€”β€”β€”

✨ Representation: Livvy and Jackson are biracial (Japanese/white), Livvy's mother is Japanese, Sadia is Pakistani and queer

I enjoyed this book, but at first the family members and backstory was really confusing. I'm still not sure why one family is referred to as the both the Okos and the Kanes. Otherwise, the characters are diverse and fleshed out. The book talks about Japanese internment and depression; these are all dealt with respectfully and thoughtfully. I enjoy Rai's later books more, but this one is still solid and a good read.

This is high angst, high conflict, and high drama, with lots of backstory and abundant obstacles. Not my thing, but I can see why lots of readers like this.
