started out kinda slow but the ending made up for it. did not want to put the book down. fell in love with akos

Roth creates an ambitious new world, but the story is simply not being engaging enough to draw you in. Truthfully, this book was long and boring in a way that *divergent* wasn’t.

It took many chapters until I actually got into it, but once I did... Wow. A never coming back journey. I am completely in love with the characters growth and how real they all are. I always say that books need to make you fell something, anything, or they aren't doing their job. Well, this book was way better than I anticipated. If I hadn't won it on bingo night, I would have probably missed this jewel that had me completely sucked into the skin, feelings and thoughts of Cyra and I hadn't been so invested into a book for a really long time. It was like coming up for fresh air after feeling so numb for so long. Can't wait to have my hand on the sequel.

but Akos, am I ugly now!?!?

what a mess.

I really, really, really loathed this book. It just felt really lagging, and it took me the whole day to read. while reading this book, I felt myself constantly being distracted and forced myself to finish it. This book was dry, a bit racist and ableist. I regret reading this book so much.

This is one of my favorite books. Really great world building.

I knew I’ve read this by the first line of this book. Somehow it was not left marked as read or rated and though I mostly remember the story, I don’t remember how good I thought it was so I think I’ll leave it at 3 stars.

Popsugar 29/50: a book set in space. 3.5 stars. I have to say...it took me the first 4-5 chapters to get into this book. There are so many made up terms for planets and groups of people and languages, etc. it was hard to keep up with at the beginning. Also, for a book set in space, I expected space to play a bigger part in it. Other than a mention of planets, galaxies, and getting on a ship, there is nothing about this plot that would be different if it were a dystopian set on earth. After my initial disappointment, I started to really enjoy the story and the characters. I will read the next one.
