Ugh this book was tedious. It was flat and moved like molasses. In fact I could sum up the entire plot in 5 sentences...not 500 pages. And the names!!! I felt like every proper noun she grabbed a handful of scrabble tiles and created a name. Also can't forget the ridiculous insta love. Combined with the racist, ableism, and self harm undertones that many other reviewers have mentioned in more knowledgeable ways than I could, this book is a HARD PASS. Sorry Veronica at least we will always have Divergent.

Meh. This was disappointing. I was expecting so much more, but I found the whole book very weak. The two main characters were relatively well developed, but the supporting characters were not. The plot was slow, the world building was insufficient, I didn't understand how the current worked, and the antagonist(s) were lacking motivation. Just so many unexplained details, really. I did enjoy the relationship between the two MC's, but other than that, I was let down. If there is a sequel, I will probably skip it.

This was … fine. I loved the premise but couldn’t get into it? Read the whole book but decided not to read the entire 2nd one right now.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I enjoyed the story and the universe Roth created. But with that in mind, and after reviewing more reviews, I am crushed by the racist undertones present and the romanticism of Cyra's pain.

I understood whilst reading the book of the divide between the two tribes and felt the discovery of multiple perspectives between them would enable a treaty. In other words, they walk in each other's shoes.

I also understand the position Roth is taking on Cyra's pain, as a sufferer of a mental illness I am familiar with bringing pain upon myself as a result of poor perception. As for the physical manifestation, as I do not experience chronic pain, I cannot comment. Perhaps the pain can be considered metaphorically.
