This book is way too long for me to keep reading this amount of boring writing. I went into this book with high hopes. The Divergent trilogy is one of my favorite series and I had been excited about a new book from Roth since it was announced. There's been plenty of controversy around this novel that I had heard about shortly before going into it which had already killed my excitement in reading it. Still deciding I needed to see for myself, I couldn't make it far. I found the plot to not be interesting at all, characters bland, and couldn't imagine the world because there was hardly any description of it.

Coming from Roth, I had high expectations. Wrapping my head around the highly unique world she has created meant trudging through the first one hundred pages. Perhaps this is my own pet peeve, but when I cannot pronounce character names, let alone the languages they speak and the planets they live on, I begin to lose interest. Additionally, if you plan on reading the book, prepare yourself for the most jarring point of view switches. One perspective told in first person suddenly ceases to a distant third person telling of another character. Maybe there was artistic motivation for this, but I didn't catch it as such.
As for the story line (once you make it to at least half way through the book) you begin to see where she is going and it becomes more enjoyable. I do enjoy the characters (I created new names in my head to make sense of the garbled consonants) and like the character conflict. That is what truly drives this book. Just don't hold your breath for the ending. I was expecting more of a cliff to hang from before wanting to fall into a sequel, and now...now I think I'm going to have to remember their names all over again before I pick up that sequel in 2018.

Solid 3.5 for strong characters and the conflict.

I have never read a Veronica Roth book. But this definitely gave a very damn good impression! i love Cyra and Akos how she makes him feel stronger and how he balances her out and teaches her kindness and forgiveness and compassion. thx Roth! ur the best!

Never picked up the tempo enough to pull me in. I needed more shifts in pace to keep my interest.

Amazing!

This book was really good. Highly recommend it! I couldn't put it down. I wanted to keep reading till the end. It keeps you at the edge of your seat the entire time!

Very disappointed, since I loved Divergent.

The context of the different nationalities was not well explained.

Very slow.

Almost didn't didn't finish, and also let down by the ending. I won't continue if there's a sequel.

Blah, just blah.
