Great narrator! Patricia R. Floyd brought these characters to life that made me feel their pain.
This book shows what happens when in a family everyone's cup is empty. Little compassion for one another and lots of arguing and accusations ensue. Family secrets are revealed that everyone has to grapple with.
At the same time this book is not hopeless and shows resiliency.

Family secrets can really make or break a family. I liked this book, however in the audiobook version it was a little hard to decern who was speaking at first. I thought the twins were the same person for a solid 20 minutes.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
My thoughts: Last week after one chapter 4% page 17 -This is okay, pin going in.
Restart 4% (17 of 280) - What a difference a mood makes. I'm really enjoying this intro the second time around.
26% (77 of 280) - I'm enjoying the sassy stories but I'm not appreciating the sadness. I'm going to need a break.
72% (206) - This should be totally predictable but I'm slow, I get so caught up in the dialogue I don't think about what's next. It gives me Terry McMillan vibes.
83% (236) - I'm not sure yet, but it may be leaving the 4 star zone.
This story was better than okay, something was missing emotionally so it didn't get into the 5 star zone, the last few chapters were the dullest to be honest but it was a good story overall. Parts of it were typical but many parts were unique and interesting. There is a rape scene that is emotionally disturbing and vaguely detailed but not graphic, like The Good Daughter, even so it's a bit much for some. Minus that it could have been PG-13 or R.
Recommend to others?: Yes. If you enjoyed A Day Late and a Dollar Short or Mama by Terry McMillan this story will be right up your alley.
