A well-better constructed idea than "Fifty Shades of Grey". Loads of interesting ideas concerning psychology and the relationship between men and women. Arguably, it has some big issues that could be addressed (racism of calling the black girls "black devils" etc.) in a different reading, but as a reading for university in a class called "German Literature and Psychology" I felt that it was a very well constructed novel that keeps the readers' attention by playing with the dynamic power relationship between Severin and Wanda.

Not as scandalous or titillating as I thought it might be - i thought it was going to be shocking for shock value with not much more to it. But it was actually quite a thoughtful exploration of desire and love and human relationships.

kind of a frustrating read. interesting in some ways, but the plot and characters bounced back and forth relentlessly, their motivations were so obscured as to be non-existent, and the prose was pretty repetitive.
