DID NOT FINISH: 39%

The book's main setting is a love story between 2 boys- a 24 year old having a crush on a 17 year old. The fact that after 3 years (time-skip), the now 20 year old is the one to confess to the now 27 year old, does NOT make it okay.

I was expecting some real romance between the two but it felt really forced and at the same time it felt Mio wasn’t even gay. I hated how Mio kept pressuring Shun into having sex with him and even Shun’s ex-fiancée was all up in their sex life too. Honestly I should’ve known by the fact that it was published by Seven Seas because every book I read by them, the art is fantastic but the storyline and characters are problematic.

This was the second wrapped manga that I bought and it was better than the first. It had more story and more depth. I defiantly want to get the 2nd volume.

What an adorable manga. Finally! We are given a realistic-ish gay relationship and we are given a scenario (that we don't see quite often) of a family not reacting positively to their child coming out. Don't get me wrong I love the fluffy reads of families accepting their queer child, and throwing pride parades and the whole sha-bang. However, that is not always the case and a lot of the time families don't react correct and react irrationally which tends to hurt the child. We see that in this case.

The art style was definitely an art style I quite enjoy. At times it reminded me of Hitorijime My Hero. Did some panels feel cramped and had way too much packed in, yes. However, it could have been worse.

Also, I enjoyed the multi-queer representation! It makes my heart happy that a manga artist didn't just include a gay couple!

My biggest issues with this manga were:

1. The plot was confusing
I understood what was going on. However, there were a lot of time skips, which aren't pointed out. Usually, time skips or flash-backs are in a weird gray or the borders of the pages are completely black. That was not the case for this and I did not realize what was a flashback and was present day. The other issue was the plot was all over the place and things just felt choppy. I felt like I was reading 3 different plot lines and none of them lined up.

2. The weird romance
I honestly have no words for the strange romance between Shun and Mio. It just felt disconnected. Mio leaves for three years and appears suddenly telling Shun he likes him but there is no indication of that anywhere. He ONLY met him ONE day! How is there any progress there? The romance just made absolutely no sense and at times it just didn't feel real.

I am planning on continuing this series. I am hoping that the romance will get better through the next few volumes and that the plot starts to make sense. I am not liking that the story is jumping everyone and there is no linear pace. Hopefully that will change soon.

just meh. not great or special in any way. i thought it was wayyyy to fast-paced and honestly the main characters didn’t have that great of a connection or chemistry. there wasn’t much build up to their relationship and i didn’t really care whether they were together or not. even the art was only okay.

So, this is the first book that I read in the boys' love section, and also the first movie that I watched in that area. Expect me to say that this is really good because it hooked me and was literally obsessed with it. I love the overflowing fight for the balance of angst and fluff—and a push-pulling Shun. It's so realistic! I understand why he's like that. He's older and knows better. And I love how Mio came back all grown up and had nothing in mind but to build a relationship with that man. I mean, man, don't hurt the poor guy!

And expect me to say that this is phenomenal for me because it opened my eyes, that maybe homo relationships can really survive (I already finished the sequels, and yes, this review is late). So, I'm really thankful for this series.

By the way, Kii Kanna's art?! I spent a month trying to move on! I love her art so much that I find it hard to digest other manga and anime!
