I cant tell if it is the worst book ive ever read or my favorite. I feel like i want to reread it but the 1000 pages were a struggle and I dont think i could read it again for a very long time.

GODD THIS WAS SO EW i would rather put my finger in a mouse trap before i interact with this ok basically EVERY SINGLE WOMAN (which totaled to about 6) had a sexual relationship with the men. INCLUDING a 17 year old girl. which murakami attempts to justify?!??!??? the only reason i finished this was because i was so far in. all the women are over sexualized, the plot drags on but is still somewhat interesting to keep you reading (or bc u got like 500 pages in and figured u might as well finish it), all of it just makes you feel sick and while there’s some interesting parts none of the sickening parts needed to be added

The only good thing about this books is that the writing is very simple so it’s a pretty quick read. The way women are written about, the relationships, everything else: absolute shit.

I'm torn about this one. The writing was excellent and for the first book actually managed to captivate me. But there was too much "wrong" with the book after those first few pages to make it an enjoyable experience: the pace is excruciatingly slow, I couldn't care less about whole paragraphs of text in which the main characters are recalling their childhood or reading short stories, the story became increasingly absurd, etc. There is no real resolution to the story either, we have no idea what happens to several characters. They just up and disappeared.

All in all a disappointing read that left me longing for a story.
