Another engrossing police procedural from Val McDermid that adds a few more pieces to the puzzle that is Tony Hill. Looking forward to seeing how this book's revelations about Tony's parents influence his future behavior and his relationship with Carol Jordan. Hard to put a McDermid novel down once you've started reading.
A good crime novel with nuanced characters. This is the first of Val McDermid's that I've read. Now I will go back and read them from the beginning. Love finding authors with lots of good books.

I seem to have veered away from suspense/police procedural/thrillers lately. I will always make time for Val McDermid though. Her books are more than the killing of victims, the investigation, gruesome crime scenes. The reader knows the investigators and everyone on the periphery. The characters have lives, emotions, fallibilities. Some that make you want to smack them upside the back of the head, hug another and be relieved when the killer is caught. The reader becomes involved in the story.
This one hit close to home as the victims are young teens and I have a child near the same age. I can only imagine the agony, the not knowing.
I can definitely recommend this book and any book by Val McDermid.

It's been a while since I read the last Tony Hill & Carol Jordan novel and this was a very nice surprise to get back to the series. I really enjoyed this book with it's mix of crime and personal story lines intermixing. It builds the character of Tony Hill and makes me really wonder what is going to happen to him now. He is at pivotal point in his life and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
An excellent example of its genre, intense, psychologically authentic. I began reading not realizing this was the basis for the amazing British tv series Wire in the Blood. Highly recommended!

Val Mcdermid has the talent to take you away, to take you to place thats dark and terrifying. she takes you in the mind of serial killers, their horrendous crimes and the people trying to catch them. Her story telling is intense and you love every minute of it.
This is yet another Tony Hill/Carol Jordan novel. Like the previous ones, it is amazing. I recommend reading all other novels as well.
