there will certainly some brilliant and beautiful parts, and several of the essays were powerful and entrancing. but, I struggled a lot with staying engaged in the text, as quite a few of the essays (especially the one listing all the fish) were pretty dull. just a rather meh novel for me. maybe if I read it again in the future while I was outside I would like it more.

It was written soo beautifuly, but I just could not view past the wierd scenes. Like tasting the milk from your cat!!?? Em- What on earth. I would be up to trying some of her poetry, because as I said, I really lover her writing.

A thoughtful and fine collection of Mary Oliver's essays. I have only read a handful of her poems and was expecting something a little more whimsical , resting in the place of its-there-if-you-look truth that nature provides. It delivered once or twice and was a nice, calm read.

It's a pleasure to be on Mary Oliver's wave length. I had to read this book slowly because I wasn't always in the receptive state of repose that was necessary to truly enjoy it. She conveys so beautifully her sense of being at home in nature, even its darkest rhythms, while also bringing her keen intellect to thinkers and poets like Emerson and Whitman. A very enriching read that I hope to dip back into again and again.
