I don't even like nature that much, but this book made me love it. The writing is exquisite. I can't give it higher praise than that. It also includes literary references, which completes its perfection.

I mean... it was okay. Nothing groundbreaking... Might have skimmed through a lot of it even though it was 100 pages long...

Side note: She insulted pilots and said they can't be artists as their brains aren't made for it. I know this is quite petty but this annoyed me very much as a pilot & artist XD. Dear Mary Oliver, may I recommend you spending some time with pilots (general aviators and airliners). Once you have done that, we can talk again.

I love Mary Oliver, I almost feel her close and a teacher… These essays definitely have the precious moments that remind you what’s important. I cannot give it 5 stars and maybe it’s my own fault. Ada Limón says don’t gobble a poetry book, read one poem at a time as they’re intense and expansive artifacts, and I sinned precisely of that here. I read more than one of these small essays at a time, sometimes many at a time, and perhaps that’s not the way with this book… Also, the middle part is quite different, no reverence to nature but to other human beings, companions to the poet and poets themselves. That’s the part I could also connect less with, and I wish I had taken a breath from the first part to this one. In case that helps!
