Mary Oliver makes me want to be a better person, a more attentive one. She writes with such wonder and awe, and she takes her time. I admire it so much.

“How wonderful that the universe is beautiful in so many places and in so many ways. But also the universe is brisk and businesslike, and no doubt does not give its delicate landscapes or its thunderous displays of power, and perhaps perception, too, for our sakes or our improvement. Nevertheless, its intonations are our best tonics, if we would take them. For the universe is full of radiant suggestion.”

Mary Oliver's writing blurs the lines between essays and poetry.

Her prose are so rich and vibrant and warm that you cant help but enjoy the journey she takes you on with her words. You hang on each lines as she glides you to her overarching theme.

This is an objectively good book as Oliver literature skills are phenomenal. The only reason i rated it a bit lower is that not every section spoke to me as much as the others. Especially section 2 which felt dragged a bit for me.

Overall amazing author with a very personal relationship with the world of word and the natural world. I Will definitely check out more of her work.

A collection of short essays on nature and the craft of literature, Oliver is one of the best authors I’ve found at channeling the awe of nature into written word

I liked the essays on Emmerson and Wordsworth the most, the rest i found less captivating. Though there is no denying that Mary Oliver is a great poet and uses words in the most tender way.
