it was ok

A very fun and interestinf story introducing new characters that I would come to love shortly after reading this book. Would recommend to anyone looking to read Legends novels

3.5/5

This was a solid Star Wars story and I enjoyed reading it. It was fun. The Star Crusher is kind of a stretch as a superweapon but I'm willing to see where it goes. This book is very obviously the first in a trilogy but it's intrigued me enough to continue reading the other books.

I read this immediately after finishing the Thrawn trilogy and it seems to pick up right where the other left off. I loved Zahn's books, but found that I liked Anderson's more, because they rely less on your memory of characters from the movies. There is more detail in the descriptions that really helped me remember elements from the vast Star Wars universe without having to pick up one of my Star Wars reference books. The story is great, with a female villain who is not as smart as Thrawn, but nastier. Highly recommended!

DID NOT FINISH

I wanted to like this. I got the full trilogy from Kevin J. Anderson at a comic con and he seemed like a nice guy. He's got a passion for great storytelling, he's worked on some iconic properties, and I'm a Star Wars fan. So I should love this, right?

Meh. It's a whole lot of meh. I got a few chapters in and just couldn't find the will to keep going. There's just not a lot of substance and the writing didn't do anything to pull me in.

Maybe I'll revisit this another day, but for now, I've got much more enticing volumes in my TBR pile. Sorry, Kevin.

Ooof. This series is going to take some work to get through! This is baaaaaad!!
