Emotional story of one boy, his brother, and how the world can seem both harsh and wonderful in equal measure. I loved the writing in this book...It was direct and felt like the dialogue could have come out of the mouth of a kid. My one issue of concern is with books that represent autistic characters as 'difficult' or 'a burden and strain' where the parents are at their wits end and everything is kind of seen as terrible because of the child with autism - I feel like this is an attitude and view point that should be changing... There is a slight resolve to this during the book which was good.... but 'A Kind of Spark' and 'Can You See Me' which are own voices stories, for me, have much greater importance when it comes to introducing children to the wonder and complexities of autism. I enjoyed how the author could explain why certain things affect different people in different ways (this was done brilliantly) and the story was beautiful... I just had some reservations.
