This book surprised me. I had no expectations. The writing style was very enjoyable, and short chapters make everything very digestable. I liked the occasional peek into the minds of Luna and Hunters' families.

The story itself kept my attention well. There are 3 primary plotlines - magical cracks appearing in the ground, a star-crossed romance, and Hunter's home life. In retrospect it was a very slow book, but it felt natural when reading. My only gripe was the rushed ending. Because we took our time setting everything up, and getting beautiful moments with our characters, there were few pages left to resolve all the threads. I would've preferred a slightly longer book if it meant things could get resolved in an equally detailed manner.

Not only was the ending rushed, and failed to tie all the plotlines, it was such a sad ending. However, it was written like a happy one - this created a sense of dissonance I struggled to resolve. I'm still not over it :(  I'm curious to try out more by this author though, because ending aside, this was such a sweet book, which portrayed teenage love with such care

An Arrow to the Moon is a contemporary re-telling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet set in America, enhanced with Chinese mythology.

this was a fun read, the supernatural feel to it adds well to the story, while still conveying elements of modern society. the forbidden lovers trope was also portrayed well. i especially liked the overall plot of the story, which seems vague but id probably be oversimplifying it if i picked out parts. i admit i got too attached to the characters though, especially since we all know how romeo and juliet ends, sigh.

5 stars. probably my second favourite r+j retelling after these violent delights by chloe gong

Read this a whiiiiile ago, but from what I remember I really really enjoyed it until the ending was thrown on. The ending truly did not feel like it fit with the rest of the book and was kind of just thrown on for some reason? Like... the character just became the moon?? It didn't make sense to me and felt more literal than metaphorical. I don't know how else to describe. Genuinely loved the rest of the book so much though.
