One of my all time favorite series, Hellsing brings the gore and gothic with rich storytelling and fast paced action. Conflict and lore collide in this series like no other and if you're looking for a compelling vampire story with plenty of biting wit and surprisingly emotional moments, then I cannot recommend this enough.

This may be one of the rare cases were anime version was more likable. I watched anime version - both of them and really liked it.
Reading the manga was a completely different experience. Both are nicely graphic but also the religious themed violence was a lot easier to digest in the anime version.
The reason I gave it 2 stars is for the authors horrible joke in the end of the volume.
There were certain things about this manga that made it very interesting to read though. It was a sort of multilingual experience: there were some japanese kana trought it just like in the most of real manga editions, english translation was somewhat made difficult to understand since there were characters who talked in irish english (real irish brogue like) which kinda made me wonder how did that look like in original japanese version. There were few phrases that may or may not be arabic in origin. Also there were a few german phrases that I was very pleased to find I actually understood.
visually the manga was not bad, but I still like the anime version better so far.

I’m an eighth grade English-Language Arts teacher. I make a deal with students that I’ll read whatever they bring me. I do this in an attempt to build a relationship with students, show interest in what they’re interested in, and promote the love of books. One of my students is now bringing me manga. Manga is kind of foreign to me, but I’ve read dozens of graphic novels.

Hellsing builds a dystopian world with the elements of Stoker’s Dracula. In Dracula, Abraham van Helsing was a vampire hunter and archenemy of Count Dracula. In this series, Hellsing is a vampire (and monster)-hunting organization. At the head of this organization is Integra and her loyal vampire Alucard (Dracula backwards, in case you didn’t notice). Hellsing keeps England clean and clear of vampires. Things get dicey, however, when the Vatican’s secret agency of vampire hunters cross agreed upon borders.

Overall, the story was pretty fun. I like the mythology. The art was over-the-top gory (is that typical for manga?). The world-building is pretty good.

Included in this volume is a bonus story where the Vatican assassins kill Palestinian terrorists. This was written in 2003 when anti-middle eastern sentiment was at its highest, but the depiction of the Palestinians still felt a bit . . . icky, to me.

Fue una aventura más sangrienta de lo que esperaba, y tuvo muchos elementos fantásticos que no esperaba pero eso lo hizo muy interesante también. Super fácil de leer y muy entretenido también. Definitivamente seguiré con los siguientes tomos.
