An excellent entry to the Kate Daniels series, and fulfills a long-time fan's wish to see Kate and Curran together as they are still growing into their official relationship.

I don't know if I want to keep reading this series. I mean, I think I will because I'm so close to the end now but it's frustrating that in BOOK SIX the author decides she must make the relationship toxic. So frustrating.

This story takes our heroes out of Atlanta and across the ocean to Europe to protect the pregnant daughter of a prominent - but certifiably wacko - European pack alpha.  They know in advance that they are being lured into a trap although they are not sure who is actually going to spring it.  Why would they go you ask?  For panacea, the only medicine that reduces the chance of teenagers going loup when they reach puberty and having to be euthanized.  The production of panacea is strictly controlled by the European packs and magic users, and the payoff for this assignment means the Atlanta shapeshifters and those that align with them would see many more of their children grow to adulthood.

While the politics of the pack and the other magic users in Atlanta have been covered in other installments of the series, this book definitely contains the most political machinations.  The history that the European packs have with Curran adds complication as does Kate's humanity.

I really enjoyed that this one takes place outside of Atlanta as it gives a perspective of packs outside of the Atlanta pack.  This was a dramatic installment in the series and while we have lost some allies in prior books, this one sees us lose a key character for the first time.

I think it was necessary as Kate's cohort couldn't realistically escape with injury only, regardless of how serious the injury might be.  I was still sad however.  I liked the interest that this particular character brought to the stories.

I'm looking forward to reading about what happens next!

Least favourite KD books for sure. Too much romance angst in this one for my taste!
